Super market music

"I Think We're Alone Now" is a great song. Tiffany is so pigeonholed by the mall gimmick that it's easy for forget.

Also I didn't realize "Always Something There To Remind Me" was a Bacharach song until it started getting substantially more play than I remember at the shitty little market I go to. That means I've heard it three times.

how friggin sick Pino Palladino's bass playing is on Paul Young's "Every Time You Go Away".
Probably a supermarket song in the UK. Pino's bass playing might even be sicker on this. It's a cover of a punk song (written by the same guy that wrote Blondie's "Hangin' on the Telephone" IIRC). Paul Young's got one of the sleeper sets at Live Aid. He's got three old R&B singers in pastel suits with him singing backup , mullet bobbing in the air as the '80s UK gals go wild. Pino's probably slapping a funky one too there.

Agree on "I Think We're Alone Now" but her "I Saw Him Standing There" is a frontrunner for worst Beatles cover. And I've heard it a couple of times at my supermarket.

I've probably told this story before but in the mid '90s, my dad competed in a karaoke tournament with a pretty decent cash prize ( I think it was $500, which is decent now but especially in 1993-94 money). His ace in the hole for the finals was Tommy James & The Shondells "I Think We're Alone Now".

Except the karaoke DJ thought he wanted Tiffany's cover of "I Think We're Alone Now". Needless to say, he bombed and did not take home that win.

Mental image of an angry middle aged Pops Kamala poorly singing Tiffany at the height of the grunge era never ceases to amuse me.

Tiffany is singing at a 60 seat lounge in Portsmouth, NH on a weeknight next month. It might go over worse than Pops Kamala's performance at that karaoke contest thirty years ago IMO.

Walmart has "Skater Boi" on the near daily rotation. For reasons I can't put together yet the word "Punk" is bleeped

He was a boy
She was a girl
Can I make it any more obvious?
He was a punk
She did ballet
What more can I say?

They've played Blink 182 "All the Small Things" for years, They used to edit out "Works sucks, I know" but have since returned the song to it's full glory.

I associate Filter with "Take A Picture" so much that I forgot that they're a NIN spinoff. I was confused when I saw that they're the opening act for the Alice Cooper/Rob Zombie/Ministry package tour.

Alice Cooper's done some supermarket music too. He even had an album produced by David Foster.

Heard 99 luftballons today while walking in produce and honestly kinda quietly marked out

I just post about what I hear. If Alice got played at Trader Joe's or some shit I'd be gleefully going on about how they'd have my business forever. Best hope is "School's Out" at the shitty corner store in June, sadly.

I heard the most sterile cover of “Once in a Lifetime” the other day. It ended before I could ask Shazam who the artist was. Talking Heads are an act I respect more than enjoy tbh but I felt offended on behalf of their many fans.

When I played trivia tonight, they were showing some Christmas romance TV movie on the one TV that wasn’t playing the Rose Bowl. It was a streaming only channel so afaik they play Christmas romances year round.

Made a quick stop into ShopRite for a much-needed midday dump and they were blasting "Love of a Lifetime."

You know what plays some random awesome jams? Sheetz.

"The Only Thing That Looks Good on Me Is You" played for the first time in 25 years today at the shitty market where I spent $13 on six cans of catfood in a pinch.

Duran Duran’s “New Moon on Monday” while picking up Chinese takeout. Feels timely since me and my classic hits radio DJ friend were texting about bands who had shitty sets at Live Aid earlier today!

It’s an American Chinese food. It’s the same everywhere. Comedy club here has very gentrified American Chinese food but that might have scared you even more.
