Saturday Night Live: The Road to Season 50

looks like Jost and Che are returning so no Update change as rumored. This will be their 12th season behind the desk.

I’m not alone, right? That was nearly unwatchable.

Bunny isn’t cut out for this. Not entirely his fault.

The sketches were the laziest I’ve ever seen. The Jeopardy sketch after the monologue was just one bad joke stretched out. I’m fairly sure they did back to back friends at a restaurant sketches where Sarah, and Chloe just wore slightly different wigs.

Just felt like nothing at all landed this week.

This reads like a post I made about SNL in 2013 just with different names. Or 2003 or 1993 or... I don't want to derail, it's just I'm glad I don't watch anymore. The last time I felt any edge to their humor was like 2012 maybe. Idk. I always paid attention to SNL, WWE, and The Simpsons because of how important those three things were to me as a child and teen, but now I'm fine if I never watch SNL again, and stopped watching those three properties years ago.

I know they have a sketch or two go viral every so often like that Gosling Beavis And Butthead sketch or whatever that Moo Deng thing was that people were talking about last year, but SNL feels less important than ever at this point. They haven't made a big star since the Wiig, Sudekiis, Samberg, Hader, Forte group. The next gen with Kate McKinnon, Cecily Strong, Taran Killam, etc didn't go as far as I was thinking they would. But, the death of the theatrical comedy has hurt SNL making new stars big time.

Of course, I'll pop in eventually to see how the first show post Lorne is, if he's not running the show from beyond the grave.

Feels like when I think of my favorite sketches; the host usually doesn’t play a big part overall. Seems like for the last 10-15 years they cater to the host way too much, and make them the focus in most sketches.

The first ever episode of Saturday Night Live aired 50 years ago today.

I didn't think the Poehler episode was that great but I see people loved it because everyone loves Amy and Tina. The psychic sketch and emo mom sketch were both good but other than that it was mostly dull

Bowen Yang is leaving the show. Tomorrow is his last show.

I think he eventually developed into a good performer. But he was anointed right out the gate as a star by the media. He got Emmy nominations every year so they could show how progressive they were. Even his first season; when he was pretty bad.

I’m assuming he’ll get a pretty good send off. The Christmas show is usually one of the better ones. Grande always seems to bring it for SNL.

so Chris Redd just casually dropped he was selling drugs to other cast members while on the show
