DELROY LINDO FUCK YES LET'S GOOOOOOOO!!!!!

Haven't seen Blue Moon but I've been a Linklater and Hawk fan forever so that's my next watch.

on the opposite end, Wicked had 10 nominations a couple years ago but Wicked: For Good was completely shut out, couldn’t even get one god damn below the line or song nomination, what a shame, ya know.

Never thought we’d see Kate Hudson get back to this level again. Lindo is a classic “wait we never nominated you before, fuck” nomination that’s surely deserved.

a rare instance where there isn’t a stinker in the best picture field.

Buckley seemed to be a mortal lock but Byrne has been gathering steam, i still think it goes Buckley but it’s not an open and shut race like it looked.

Leo vs Timmy is a great showdown but even Leo is putting in a “i’m good, let the kid have his day” campaign effort and i think the academy knows what they got with Timmy and historically they shun male actors in their youth and make them wait “their turn” as opposed to female actors where they like to champion an ingenue and i think they flip the script.

Sinners vs One Battle is a fantastic showdown where there’s no loser. There’s the usual agenda against the front runner forming right now against One Battle but that discourse means nothing.

great year at the cinema this year and almost all the nominees are deserving and there isn’t a “WTF” snub.

I like Delroy Lindo just fine. Super shocked Jack didn’t get that nomination for Sinners though.

not a single notable prognosticator or guild or critic body nominated him, so it would have been a monumental wtf if that had happened with O’ Connell. there was more buzz about Miles Caton being a surprise.

I just remember when it was new O’Connell getting a ton of buzz, and people expecting a nomination when the movie was new. Miles wouldn’t have surprised me either. Both were great breakout rolls. Kinda feel like the Delroy nom was him being consistently solid for as long as he’s been with a “we owe you one” nomination.

I don’t follow trades or anything too closely though.

if there’s a negative here it’s that no other choice was completely blanked, even in international

also beyond amused at the bit with Diane Warren getting her 17th nomination and loss for a literal movie about herself.

Emma Stone racking up her 7th nomination at the age of 37, she’s coming for Meryl at 21 nominations.

Sentimental Value got four acting nominations but still didn’t get best casting nomination that seems a touch weird, no?

super big congratulations to the McMahon family for finally getting their long deserved oscar nomination today.

Marissa McMahon is a listed producer for “Train Dreams”, a movie despite the association with that name deserves attention and recognition if you haven’t seen it yet.

Poor Rock goes all out for The Smashing Machine and doesn't even end up with a nomination for Best Actor.

Cautiously hoping "Golden" wins and Best Animated Movie will be interesting, I've heard some buzz that Elio may actually take it.

Smashing Machine lost a ton of steam by the time Oscar campaigning came around. People liked Rock's performance but were pretty meh on the film. Jesse Plemons was also tapped for a Best Actor nod for Bugonia but Leo and Hawke came knocking.

Amy Madigan Best Supporting Actress for Weapons. Between this and Sinners, it might be the biggest Oscar night in history for horror.
I wish Sally Hawkins got the Madigan hype train because it's such a better performance. I'm of the rare opinion that all the tension of Weapons went out the window once we saw silly looking Auntie Gladys in the Principle's office.

I like Madigan, but all the people acting like she's this all time great actress that should've been nominated for like Uncle Buck and Field Of Dreams need to stop. Same with all the people that were overhyping Brendan Frasier and Demi's prior movies after they were nominated. Madigan is a good character actress, but she's not like Glenn Close or Sissy Spacek level of legend. I actually preferred Spacek's performance in Die My Love to Madigan's as well tbh, but they don't nominate Lynne Ramsay movies.

Sean Penn wins best supporting actor in a mild upset I suppose (and he no showed). Hot take maybe but I found his character the least interesting in OBAA.

I loved him in it tbh. Benicio was entertaining, but I thought Penn's Steve Lockjaw is one of his best characters and had more depth. His DNA test scene with Chase Infinity might be the best acting in the movie imo. His insecurities were hilarious and the walk is pretty iconic.
