Did New Jack ever scrap with a legitimate tough guy? I know Gypsy Joe had his day but he was 70 when New Jack messed up.

Black Bart's wrestlingdata indicates he vanished right after WW3'95 from WCW and did not reappear in wrestling until he got a WWF try out in January 98! It had to be a try out as RAW was taped on the East Coast. Had it been in Texas or something I could chalk it up to just giving a familiar name a pay day as a thank you for his years of jobbing on TV in the early 90s.

It isn't like it would've improved him.

Anthony was over under various gimmicks from 84-95, so it isn't like there wasn't something to work with. If the balding bothers Vince, shave it like Austin or slap a hood on. It's not like the roster was overflowing with talent in the summer of 96, hence why Tony and the rest were brought in to be TV geeks anyway.
Smothers/DWB vs Candido/Pritchard is ***1/2

Yes, I guess I've reached the point in fantasy booking where TL Hopper should have been a somebody.

I wonder if he was still with the Dirty White Girl? Hot trailer park trash feuding with Model Sable and the Wildman~!

I was listening to John McAdams interview with the author of The Six Pack and they sidebarred into some Montreal Screwjob discussion. Apparently, it’s an accepted theory that Vince McMahon goaded Bret Hart into punching him because he knew Bret would be able to sue the pants out of WWF for breach of contract and he wanted to have grounds for a counter suit.

That is most Vince McMahon story (non sex pest division) I have ever heard. Considering how mired in lawsuits and legal issues WWF was in the mid ‘90s, I can honestly see it being kind of worth risking a broken nose, jaw or concussion to avoid a suit that they almost definitely would have lost.

Closest is Wendi Richter, I guess. But I get not being an influence to anyone because her whole aura was tits and one of the most obnoxious voices to make the majors.

Sunny flaming out was the best thing to happen to her, though.

I really gotta back to rewatching 2001.

Taker and Austin had at least one match a year together for six years and they never clicked as well as they should've when they couldn't hide in multi-man stuff. Judgment Day 97 or Fully Loaded are probably the best.

But the rest of that card looks super solid, aside from HHH/Kane who have never had a good match. Turmoils are usually breezy watches. Benoit/Angle would need to fight to be lower than ****1/2. Hardcore title has Rhino at his peak so it's going to be good. Honestly the important stuff went down the next night, though.

JD 2001 is a pretty good show really, but as you said it got overshadowed by both real and scripted things starting the night after. Extremely underwhelming set but I always liked how intimate Arco Arena looked.

Something about the month of May and forgettable Austin-Taker matches. Also Chyna's last match in WWF.

I genuinely forgot (or flat out didn't know) that the women's division was basically dead during the entire InVasion angle. It looks like they didn't vacate the title until Chyna officially left WWF in November.
Was this around the time that Lawler had been trying to get The Kat pushed before she left? I know the WCW women (outside of Molly really) just couldn't work so you had Lita, Jacqueline, and a still pretty green Trish Stratus trying to make Stacy Kiebler and Torrie Wilson into "legitimate" women's wrestlers during that stretch. Ivory had come in by that point too but was still acclimating to the WWF.

Jazz wouldn't debut until November 2001 and Victoria came in August of 2022 so the women's division was basically Lita, Trish, Jacqueline, Ivory, Molly for a long stretch.
