Supreme Court WTF Thread

Internet bubble (and Epic living in her district or at least near it?) has us grossly overestimating AOC’s popularity.

She should probably set her sights on becoming a US Senator or Governor of New York before she has Oval Office aspirations.

I am more surprised she didn’t primary Kristen Gillibrand (who doesn’t seem especially well liked) for Senator than go for POTUS this year.

I think AOC has been defending Biden, not running for president this year.

There is no need to be senator or governor before running for president in this country again. More important credentials to American voters now are placement in the WWE hall of fame and how many seasons of the Celebrity Apprentice acted out on NBC.

I do currently live in AOC's district and honestly, I've met just as many people who like her than those that don't. Granted, a lot of their criticisms boil down to her being a woman, a POC, and generally smug so what do they know.

I wish she was more effective in her role because I'd give her my vote. Her smugness is earned on a morality level, IMO, and her ability to keep things Socratic during hearings with a target is solid.

SCOTUS with a pair of just terrific rulings to end the term. First one is on Trump's efforts to limit birthright citizenship. Second is in agreement with parents who want to stop their kids from reading anything about gay people. 6-3 rulings in both cases.

Those 12 legs on trashbags did that one day after the anniversary of a less-Republican-enough court that codified gay marriage rights.

So Biden Admin uses the clearly stated powers of the HEROES Act to cancel student loans, and the Supreme Court spikes it under the guise of "major questions doctrine", i.e. the catch-all the use when they can't come up with a legal reason. But Trump Admin wants to shut down the Education Dept without consent from Congress, and it's all good in the hood? No major question with it? okjenniferlawrence.gif

Judging people based on their race? AOK now!

Roberts is allowing the billions in foreign aid freeze to continue for now

It took more than 70 years after Reconstruction before any civil rights legislation was passed. Nearly two centuries passed between the Declaration and Black people getting the right to vote. Since 1972, women, Black people, and people 18-20 have been able to vote. Republicans have spent the entire time since trying to dismantle those core American values and acts. And they are succeeding. After the redistricting tactic wasn't working as well as they assumed, they pivoted to their bought and paid for Court (they're not saying "boo," Justices, they're saying "whoo-ahs," like Ralphie).

Feels doom-y to me. But at least most posters here will still be able to vote!
