Those first two albums (especially the first one) are essentials, and she didn't deserve he shit she got for protesting the Catholic Church (especially what we know now). RIP

She had more backbone than anyone else with her level of fame. She put the church sex abuse scandal before her career. She knew she was going to fuck her career and she did it anyway because the awareness was more important. She knew that. She still did it and I wish then I respected her the way I did once I comprehended the gravity of what she was saying.

So far "cause" hasn't been released, but with the recent shit in her life, I think we can all connect the dots, and that's just awful. She didn't deserve the negativity that was immediate nor the negativity that persisted through the last 30 years. RIP thank you for the sacrifice you made for all of those innocent abuse victims.

As somebody who wasn't old enough to appreciate what she did on SNL, in retrospect it was one of the ballsiest moves a recording artist has done. Compare that to actors/musicians coming out to support causes now well after the fact (still a good thing, don't get me wrong) when it's safe to do so for their careers/gets them a good PR boost.

She was one of the first female singers (alongside probably Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston) who made me appreciate what a true singing voice could do for a song and I'd make the argument she was one of the few female singers of that 1987-1994 era that could legitimately express rage/anger in her vocals at an elite Mariah/Whitney level of singing talent.

Fire on Babylon is still one of my favorite songs of any artist and showcases both her struggling background/life and her fire through her singing. Kind of unfortunate she's mostly known for Nothing Compares 2 U only as Gary said, she has a ton of great songs.

I'm really worried about the cause of death, I won't lie. I don't know how I'd deal, to be honest.
