2023 Rock N Roll Hall of Fame thread

White Stripes being on there is just bizarre. White Blood Cells came out in '01 but their debut album came out in 1999. The guidelines for the Hall state 25 years from your first release so maybe they had some singles out there in '98?

I'd say this is a good year to finally induct Rage. Joy Division and New Order are bands I thought were already in.
 
I’m sure Warren Zevon gets in. Shocked he wasn’t already.

I like The White Stripes well enough. But it just seems weird.

They’re eventually going to have to put in bands like Blink 182. They’ve got the time, the sales, influence (maybe not the kind they’d like).
 
Queens of the Stone Age is the only band on there who probably should have gotten a nod but they'll go in eventually, I'm sure.

I think Sevendust at least deserves some recognition of being pretty much the only band on the planet who has kept their line-up consistent from their formation to over 25 years later.
 
That dickhead picked Sheryl Crow over Kate Bush. Disqualified.
 
I like Willie and all but what the hell is he doing on a "rock" ballot?
 
Dolly got in last year and Willie’s got more rock cred than her(not that that is saying much). In the past 10-15 years, RRHOF has essentially became a popular music from the 2nd half of the 20th century on Hall of Fame.
 
Dolly made Whitney Houston. For that alone she should be in a RNR HOF. The fact she's one of the greatest female performers to ever hit a stage probably matters less to those zoomers.
 
Ask a rando under 30 to name a Whitney song. Children aren't the future.
 
You know many more unobjectionable gen zs than I do, evidentally. All the karaoke dwellers only know, like, two songs max.

Hall of Fame recognition doesn't take into account what anyone thinks. Costco is more discriminating in who they let in.

Far be it from me to defend this dumb org—they are not worth defending!—but I object to your diminishing of Houston's accomplishments.
 
Yeah. I am pretty sure Dolly would think it’s ludicrous to say she made Whitney. If anything, Whitney prevented Dolly from being swept into the dustbin of pop culture (IE having to do residencies in Branson).
 
I only downplay it in the sense that my lack of faith and interaction has led a feeling of diminishment. That and I honestly am not being completely serious, however the lack of faith remains. "Cemented" might have been a better word, though.

It's hard to choose a favorite among so many great tracks, but "The Greatest Love of All" is one of the best, most powerful songs ever written about self-preservation, dignity. Its universal message crosses all boundaries and instills one with the hope that it's not too late to better ourselves. Since it's impossible in this world we live in to empathize with others, we can always empathize with ourselves. It's an important message, crucial really. And it's beautifully stated on the album.

As I've said plenty of times before, it's less about playing music within the macrogenre "rock n' roll" and more about playing music that has been highly regarded in the rock n' roll age.

It'll be interesting to see if RATM plays at the ceremony, or which song a gathering of other artists cover at the least.
